During 2011 I worked one day a week with some young artists from Keith Street School in Whanganui.
We looked at different paint techniques, pottery and photography as ways for them to express themselves and meet the schools vision of “Community, Identity, Achievement”.
The final part of our assignment was to put together, publicise and host an exhibition featuring their creations.
The photos are from the opening night, a night where the students and their families truly believed that they were artists. The photos are from one of the students, Hokorima.
This was one of those situations where you go into it thinking you are helping someone out, and then you get so much from it and learn so much about yourself that you end up wondering who taught who.
